Baripada: In a brazen act, a group of five armed robbers made off with ₹9.66 lakh from a bank in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Tuesday afternoon, according to police reports.
The robbery occurred at the Kuchei branch of Gramya Bank, which falls under the Kuliana police station's jurisdiction, as confirmed by inspector-in-charge Madhumita Mohanty.
As per the police complaint, the masked intruders stormed into the bank, brandishing weapons and threatening branch manager Ranjita Soren and cashier Suryaprava Mallick to unlock the strong room.
At the time of the incident, eight customers were inside the bank, all of whom were also intimidated by the robbers, police stated.
Following the theft, the criminals escaped on two motorcycles.
DIG of the Eastern Range, Satyajit Nayak, along with SP Mayurbhanj, Varun Guntupalli, visited the scene of the crime.
Authorities have filed a case, and an investigation is currently underway, Mohanty added.
